I was recently reminded of this old John Lennon quote, but it had never struck me as so true as it does here and now in my life as a parent. What I took from this was, don't be disheartened if a plan doesn't go the way you envisaged there are many people who don't have plans and things work out fine and don't plan too much that you can't see the other opportunities in front of you, as John Lennon said "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans".“Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” Whilst I am happy in my job, I don't know what the future holds. You have a plan a path you can follow and you can aim to get there. They answered, I wish I had a goal but I dont know what I want to do. I asked them once, what is it like to go from place to place, job to job? They've just applied or networked to get the job because they, like the look of it, needed a job or felt they could add value. Not always getting paid more, not always getting more experience. I wondered if my goals narrow my opportunities, minimalise my experience in life and makes me unsettled as I am always wanting to work towards the next thing.Ī close friend of mine lives life without goals. However there are people I know who don't have goals and I've often tried to think about what it would be like. I have always had a goals and it has kept me striving for the next thing. All the motivational books I've read, lectures, talks and seminars I've attended have said, make sure you have goals something you can aim for.
